Elvert M. Walter

	Elvert M. Walter, 77, of Zeigler, Illinois, formerly of Tamoroa, died at 11:35 a.m., Saturday, December 20, 2003 at his home.
	Elvert was born February 3, 1926 in Viola, Wisconsin to Harold and Lillian (Spurrier) Walter.
	He married Jenny Slaughter June 14, 1947 in Waukon, Iowa.  She survives in Zeigler.
	Other survivors include five daughters and four sons-in- law, Dianna and Ted Wagen of Holiday, Florida, Karen and James Bush of Waunakee, Wisconsin, Jenny Lynn and Tom Hedrick of Marriottsville, Maryland, Kathy Jo "Josie" Walter of Tamoroa, Pamela and Lowe Berzinski of Brodhead, Wisconsin; eleven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and a brother and sister-in-law, Delburn and Mary Walter of Viola, Wisconsin.
	His parents, a sister Mescel Nemec and a brother, Richard Walter preceded him in death.
	Mr. Walter was of the Protestant faith.  He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II who served with the Air Transport Command, 1521st AAF Base Unit.  He retired from Gilman Engineering and Manufacturing in Janesville, Wisconsin in 1995 where he was a machinist.
	Funeral services for Mr. Walter were held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 23, 2003 at Vantrease Funeral Home in Zeigler with Brother David Lindgens officiating.  Burial was at Zeigler Cemetery with military grave side rites courtesy of the Zeigler American Legion, Patrick McClellan Post 177.  Visiting hours were from 6 to 9:00 p.m., Monday at the funeral
home.
	Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Walter may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
